random acts of kindness - strangers helping strangers......... and loving it!
thought ya might like a peek at some of the fun steve, chrissy and jordi had during the Richmond Housing Estate Community Project where massive teams of us (35 teams of 4-8 people inside two of the buildings comprising 22 floors of apartments) spent the day cleaning graffiti off the stairwell walls, foyers, hallways, roof, barbecues, chairs, tables - wherever and picking up rubbish - in the community buildings on Elizabeth St Richmond.
6,000 people live in these buildings and we got to meet some of them during our day their scrubbing - one woman told us "it really is a nice place to live, there are just the few who try to ruin it for everyone"
we have never ever seen so many security guards! I guess with 4 blocks of flats, each 22 storeys high with 6,000 tenants, you would need to have security. they have a playground and bbq area in the middle - but it really is like a city in a city.... and we have come accross so many of these 'estates' in this part of Melbourne - its incredible.
we met so many nice people - the vols alongside us and the residents. whenever we were in a lift with any of the residents we would rap 'em up and tell them how special they are.
gosh it was a fun day!
further teams went to one of the local schools and did like a backyard blitz.... gardening, cleaning buildings, picking up rubbish, fixing chairs and tables etc.
Christians from 2 Melb churches, school teachers and students, cops, council housing workers - so many - working together for one day to change the surroundings for others for life
ya gotta luv being alive!!!!!!!!
